We hope that you and your children had a wonderful half term. The governors spent most of the holiday recovering from a very busy governor day which we held at school on Tuesday 7th February!
Governors joined in with the Safer Internet Day activities and then got stuck into visiting Maths and English lessons so that we could see for ourselves the continuing improvements made to teaching and learning in school. We really enjoyed speaking to the children and asking them about how they challenge themselves during lesson time. If you visited the school on Safer Internet Day, perhaps you spotted some brilliant examples of writing displayed on the walls – which includes evidence of children editing their writing to further improve it.
Following a book look led by Mrs Gordon, governors had lunch with the children and enjoyed discussing a variety of topics with them! After lunch, we spent time with the children looking at PSHE floor books which record the class activity during that lesson, history books, and some fabulous art sketch pads. At the end of the day, we also had an opportunity to chat with staff over a cup of tea.
Governors really valued the day as it helped us see in context the matters we discuss in our governor meetings. We are very grateful to Mrs Gordon and Mrs Arthur who worked with us throughout the day and to all the staff who welcomed us into school. Special thanks go to all the children who were not phased by our presence. They answered our questions confidently and sensibly, often whilst continuing to focus on the task they’d been set by their teacher. Governors were really struck by how calmly they all settled down to work after parents had left after Safer Internet Day activities were over - throughout the day there was a calm atmosphere within the school building.
We also wanted to let you know that we have appointed two new members of our local governing body and belatedly welcome Sarah Sharpley and Chris Taylor as parent governors. We continue to grow our team so would love to hear from those who are interested in joining our LGB. Please contact our chair, Kate Westbrook, at [email protected] if you would like a chat! We love to hear from anyone with a passion for supporting Grange Juniors – whether that’s a parent, carer, grandparent, or community member.
